“If you don’t recount your family history, it will be lost. Honour your own stories and tell them too. The tales may not seem very important, but they are what binds families and makes each of us who we are.”
If you’re planning to be in the Perth area this summer, remember to stop by the Lanark County Archives. They are open every Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm and are located at 1920 Concession 7 Road in Drummond Centre, just west of Perth.
Some of the records available for research include The Lanark County Land Registry Abstract Books and Land Deeds dating from 1868 to 1955, listings for local cemeteries, census records, early church records of baptisms and marriages, and scrap-books of births, deaths and marriages from local newspapers such as ‘The Perth Courier’ and the ‘Lanark Era’.
Did one of your ancestors live in Lanark County? Why not spend an hour or two at the Lanark County Archives and discover some of your own family history.
